Our commitment to digital accessibility for all visitors

Our Commitment

The Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Our website strives to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.

Accessibility Features

We have implemented the following accessibility features on our website:

  • Accessibility Options: The accessibility button in the bottom-left corner of our pages opens a panel where you can change text size, line spacing, letter spacing, and text alignment, and turn on high contrast, inverted colors, reduced motion, a dyslexia-friendly font, highlighted links, or a large cursor. Your choices are remembered in your browser, and a Reset button restores the defaults.
  • Keyboard Navigation: Menus, site search, the Chamber Portal drawer, and forms can be used with a keyboard for users who cannot use a mouse. The Escape key closes the search window, the Chamber Portal drawer, and the Accessibility Options panel.
  • Focus Management: Opening the Chamber Portal drawer moves keyboard focus into it, and closing it returns focus to where you were.
  • Alt Text: Images have alternative text descriptions for screen readers.
  • Color Contrast: Text and background colors meet WCAG AA contrast requirements.
  • Resizable Text: Text can be resized using browser settings without loss of functionality.
  • Focus Indicators: Visible focus indicators for keyboard navigation.
  • Form Labels: Form fields have associated labels for assistive technologies, including the site search box and the newsletter sign-up field.
  • Unobstructed Controls: The cookie notice sits below the accessibility button and back-to-top button instead of covering them.
  • Semantic HTML: Proper heading structure and semantic markup.
  • Responsive Design: Content adapts to different screen sizes and orientations.
