.: The Place to be this Summer
The spirit of legendary aviatrix Amelia Earhart is alive and well in Atchison! Each summer the community pulls out all the stops in honor of its favorite daughter, complete with a downtown music, food and crafts fair, star-filled outdoor concert, children's activities, carvinal, awards and honors, Earhart research and literature, music on the beautiful Riverfront, aerobatic performances and the grandest of all finalés — the "Concert in the Sky" fireworks show.
There's a reason thousands of people from across the nation — and even the world — flock to this scenic riverside town every July: We have something for everyone. Let your children experience Mad Science of KC and Reptiles Upclose and Personal downtown, then bring them to the historic Santa Fe Depot to ride the 12-guage train while you explore the Atchison Rail Museum. See "Amelia" at the library before heading out to beautiful Warnock Lake for LakeFest 2011, the premier outdoor concert event in the area. Browse a wonderful array of arts and crafts while sampling unique food items and listening to area musicians on our beautiful pedestrian Mall. And don't forget your lawn chairs. Stake out a spot early on the Riverfront, near the Lewis & Clark Pavilion, to watch an exciting mix of live musicians and watch pilots perform stunts over the Missouri River before the fireworks begin.
Make sure to bookmark this site, as we will be featuring new events periodically. Tickets for some events are available online through this site. And don't hesitate to contact us for more information. See you in July!

.: The Show Will Go On!
Even the Mighty Mo can't stop the Amelia Earhart Festival! Atchison has been spared the major flooding suffered by many Midwest communities, but the Riverfront area in Atchison is experiencing minor flooding. Because of that, all the Saturday evening activities will be held at Warnock Lake. That includes food and beverages, street performers, live music, aerobatic performances and the "Concert in the Sky" fireworks finalé.
For directions to Warnock Lake, click HERE.
Luckily, Warnock Lake is a beautiful, spacious area just outside of Atchison that is perfect venue for the summer's most exciting party! Handicap parking is available at the lake and several shuttles will run from various locations to get you to the lake and back to your vehicle after the festivities conclude. Complete shuttle information is available below.
Getting to Atchison may be a little different for some of our festival-goers. US 59 is closed east of Atchison, including the Amelia Earhart Memorial Bridge over the Missouri River. Those needing to cross the Missouri should so at US 36 in St. Joseph, Mo., or at Route 92 in Leavenworth. All you have to do is take K-7 from there and you'll have no trouble finding us!
Everything else at the Amelia Earhart Festival — the LakeFest concert featuring Darius Rucker, downtown arts & crafts and children's activities, educational events, the Pioneering Achievement Award Luncheon and speakers symposium, and the many special tours and events — will all go on as planned in their usual locations. So don't change your plans, it's going to be a wonderful weekend!
